Estuarine stonefish (Eng) – Synanceia horrida (Lat) (family Synanceiidae) – grows to 60 cm (usually 30 cm). It feeds on small and medium fish, hunting from ambush on the bottom. Often partially buried in sand. Single. Divers are meeting this stonefish more often during night dives. The distinguishing feature of this species of stonefish - bone ridge above the eyes
